Teacher’s Practical Workshops

For those who are looking at a career teaching people teaching dogs and for those who currently teach classes and are looking for innovative new ideas. Participants in need of the relevant training are also very welcome, in fact, necessary.

The workshops will include exercises, games, experiential learning, teaching strategies, equipment reviews and testing. Each workshop is focussed on a different behavioural capacity and level of connection:

Building Connection

    1. First puppy. Teaching interactive skills; strategies for interaction in different categories of people and dogs: strangers (walk on by), acquaintances, (wait until greeted) family and friends (interactive approval). Familiarisation protocols, handling, daily routines. Experiential learning.

    2. Second puppy. Out and about, walking together, management skills. Exercises that build  connection through understanding, compromise and the pleasure of shared learning.

Maintaining Connection

    3. Adolescents & wild dog-was-a-lovely-puppy where learning does not exist, management by hormones: maintaining basic responses, teaching "I want doesn't get", control of arousal. Maintenance exercises and focus demanding activities.

Repairing Connection

    4. First Adult. In need of some connection: majority of behaviour and interaction is good, but one or two areas in need of repair, learning to watch the world go by and not add a running commentary. Paying attention to the small details.

    5. Second Adult. Off the scale of disconnection: where every interaction raises conflict, where we simply do not understand each other, life is not as pleasant as it should be. Rebuilding the connection with simple exercises that give a strong sense of achievement.

The five types of workshops rotate through the year in the same order. Each workshop is £55, you can book for them individually. Book for four consecutive workshops and get one free.
