Our training often centres around the key elements of reinforcement and providing the rewards suitable for the dog, for the behaviour and for the future.
To ensure our rewards are complimentary and do not put the dog into conflict we need a library of opportunities that not only maintain and strengthen the behaviour but build desire, the right type of anticipation and enquiry from the dog.
This needs imaginations and creativity. It needs a long term plan, it needs to be thoughtful and sometimes unexpected.
We can deliver in different patterns, where the distance, speed and pace of the delivery changes the anticipation of the dog. We can deliver remotely separating ourselves from being food dispensers. We can deliver with social activities, with play, with predatory engagement.
All these types of delivery benefit from practise, a clear understanding of the details involved, and application appropriate to the behaviour, the environment and the future.
We shall look at the finer points of table service, shopping (at Waitrose of course), chasers, catchers and wine merchants.
It would be useful for both you and your learner to be familiar with clean food delivery and the use of a marker. Your learner can be of any age and developing lifeskills, preparing for performance, for rehabilitation, for husbandry or simply for the pleasure of interaction and shared quality time. Clean, thoughtful training naturally develops learner confidence, a perpetual joy in learning and strong sense of achievement for both participants.
