The Power of Anticipation

The Project area is for exploration, failure, questioning, seeking answers, finding fields of knowledge we didn’t know existed. It is about bringing our collective learning, knowledge and experience together to enable us to learn more about dogs.

About this project

Anticipation of reinforcement delivery has been my familiar protocol many years. Folk are used to seeing my pantomime as I prepare to seek for the very best treat that the dogs’ effort has earned.

Over the past few months I have been questioning why some behaviours in some situations with all the apparently similar elements in place do not blossom as expected. Or more pertinently what is the key difference?

Exploring our biases, understanding, assumptions and the rest of the junk we bring to the classroom is a cleaning out process that needs regular attention.

I have put together some ideas in this project that focusses on how we do, or don’t, use the anticipatory effect, when it seems to help behaviour blossom, and when it seems to cripple behaviour.

To prepare to bring this to the attention of the training community I would like you help:

~ Ask more questions

~ Question my assumptions

~ Question whether this is dreaming, making the shoe fit or perhaps an inkling of a idea worth exploring

~ Give me your first responses, you can change or delete them later
