Rewards Markers & Feedback
starting 5 Jun 2025 ~ 6 weeks
Effective feedback is the super power that builds learning:
➤ Using a Range of Rewards can signficantly effect the future of a behaviour: building arousal or creating focus and stillness. Choosing the Reward and the delivery that compliments the learning is a critical part of your skills.
➤ Markers, (Reward Predicting Stimulus), are always present but if you are not aware of how they are functioning your dog can be learning something quite different than your intention. Delivered with purpose builds really efficient and stress-free learning. Markers are your dog’s feedback and can ensure the enthusiasm and joy flows into the learning.
➤ Learning with Confidence should never carry a fear of mistakes for either you or your dog. We should seek experimentation and develop the skills to choose what pathways to travel, when to change and when to pursue. Errors provide significant information on the learning gaps: what changes can be made?
➤ Learn to see Reward Opportunities and build from what they CAN do, not from what they should NOT do.
➤ Active Learners will be seeking your cues to access their valued rewards giving you the missing buzz.
Through the 6 weeks we shall be teaching a range of skills for your dog that build their movements, balance, responsiveness, desire to learn by using targets, luring, cup on a stick and food games. These can be key lifeskills or simple activities to build the skills of learning.
The purpose of learning is to gain
more and better Rewards.

Learning is Not for Spectators
Are you an Active Learner? Are you getting your money’s worth for online courses?
Cooking, shopping, playing golf or training your dog if you are not working at getting better then you are getting worse. Cruising without paying attention is a sure way to let your skills slip.
The Need to Correct an Error
Our cultural history of training dogs is laced with Person Shows Dog types of principles. The training process focussed on removing what was not desired and leaving the residue as correct. Sometimes this was identified with praise.
How we subtract that “not desired” is the biggest question today….
Good technique and attention to detail ensures the learning is a sweet ride for the dog.
